BEIJING, (Xinhua) — Chinese prosecuting agencies prosecuted 18,376 people in 2025 for crimes involving the production and sale of counterfeit or substandard goods, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP) said Saturday.
Meanwhile, prosecuting agencies nationwide have maintained a high-pressure crackdown on crimes endangering food and drug safety to safeguard public health, the SPP said in a press release. In 2025, prosecutors prosecuted 9,595 people in 5,026 food-related crime cases and 4,043 people in 2,135 drug-related crime cases.
The SPP statement pledged that prosecuting agencies will continue to maintain a tough stance against such crimes, further investigate upstream and downstream links in the industrial chain, dismantle criminal networks, strengthen coordination with relevant authorities, and improve mechanisms linking administrative enforcement with criminal justice to better protect consumers’ legitimate rights and interests.
