Global Times: In response to a question on whether China is considering evacuating Chinese nationals and companies from Pakistan and Afghanistan or suspending relevant flights due to the fierce cross-border clashes between the two countries, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Friday, “We are closely following the development of the situation and will provide necessary assistance to Chinese nationals in need.”

China has been mediating between Pakistan and Afghanistan through its own channels and stands ready to continue to play a constructive role in deescalating the situation and improving relations between the two countries, Mao said on Friday in response to another question concerning the fierce clashes and rapid escalation of tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan in their border areas.

China is closely following the developments of the situation. Pakistan and Afghanistan are close neighbors, and both are neighboring countries of China; as a neighbor and friend, China is deeply concerned about the escalation of the conflict and deeply saddened by the casualties caused by the conflict, Mao said on Friday.

Mao said that the current round of Pakistan-Afghanistan conflict is more intense than previous ones, and its continuation or escalation will bring harm and losses to both sides.

Mao said that China supports combating all forms of terrorism and calls on both sides to exercise calm and restraint, properly resolve their differences and disputes through dialogue and consultation, and realize ceasefire as soon as possible to avoid more suffering, as this serves the fundamental interests of the two countries and peoples, and will help uphold peace and stability in the region. She added that the Chinese Foreign Ministry and the Chinese embassies in Pakistan and Afghanistan are engaging relevant parties of the two countries on this matter.

China has asked both countries to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel, projects and institutions in Pakistan and Afghanistan, the spokesperson said.
