SHENZHEN (Global Times): China has carried out the death sentences of four leading members of the Bai family criminal gang based in northern Myanmar, who had been sentenced to death in November 2025 for crimes including intentional homicide, telecom fraud and drug trafficking, while another principal offender, Bai Suocheng, died of an illness, according to the Xinhua News Agency on Monday.
The Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court of Guangdong Province on November 3, 2025, sentenced Bai Suocheng, Bai Yingcang, Yang Liqiang, Hu Xiaojing, and Chen Guangyiâfive defendants in the Bai family criminal groupâto death, together with corresponding supplementary penalties, for crimes including intentional homicide, intentional injury, fraud, drug trafficking and manufacturing, kidnapping, and operating a casino, Xinhua reported.
After the first-instance verdict was pronounced, Bai Suocheng died of illness, while the other defendants filed appeals. Following a court hearing, the Guangdong Provincial High People’s Court ruled on December 24, 2025, to reject the appeals and uphold the original judgment, and, in accordance with the law, submitted the case to the Supreme People’s Court for review.
Upon review, the Supreme People’s Court confirmed that the Bai family criminal group, with Bai Yingcang and others as principal offenders, established multiple compounds in the Kokang region of Myanmar through self-construction and cooperative development. The syndicate recruited and attracted several “financial backers,” including Yang, to move into these compounds and provided them with armed protection, the report said.
Together with these “backers,” the syndicate committed crimes such as telecommunications and online fraud, operating casinos, intentional homicide, intentional injury, kidnapping, extortion, and organizing and forcing prostitution. The gambling- and fraud-related funds involved amounted to more than 29 billion yuan ($4 billion), resulting in the deaths of six Chinese citizens and injuries to multiple others. In addition, Bai Yingcang also colluded with others to traffic and manufacture approximately 11 metric tons of methamphetamine.
The Supreme People’s Court held that Bai Yingcang organized and led the Bai family criminal group and provided armed protection for telecom fraud groups, while Yang, Hu, and Chen organized, led, or participated in such groups, committing multiple crimes.
The Court found the crimes to be extremely serious, with grave circumstances, consequences, and social harm. The facts were clear, the evidence sufficient, the convictions accurate, the sentences appropriate, and the procedures lawful. Accordingly, the Supreme People’s Court approved the death sentences for all four defendants.
After receiving the Supreme People’s Court’s criminal ruling and execution orders, the Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court lawfully pronounced and carried out the death sentences for the four people. Prior to the executions, the criminals’ close relatives met with them, Xinhua reported.
On January 29, the 11 defendants of the northern Myanmar-based Ming family crime syndicate case, who was sentenced to death in September 2025, were also executed.
