BEIJING, (Xinhua) — A Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson on Wednesday expressed concerns about the latest cybersecurity package rolled out by the European Commission aimed at forcibly de-risking supply chains in the mobile networks, which some comments say targets China.
The EUās move is not about security, but politically motivated, protectionist, non-market and against fair competition. It will cost the EU enormously both financially and in terms of its market image, confidence in its business environment, and local tech industries.
Chinese companies are law-abiding and high-quality providers for the EUās telecom and digital sector. They are never a security threat to European countries. We urge the EU to stop pursuing the wrong path. China will do what is necessary to defend Chinese companiesā legitimate rights and interests.
