ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has received a third consignment of humanitarian assistance from China for communities affected by this year’s devastating floods, state media reported on Friday.Heavy monsoon rains and flooding have claimed more than 1,037 lives across the country and caused crop losses worth billions of dollars.

Pakistan, one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change, has seen widespread destruction, with millions displaced as floods damaged over 229,000 homes, washed away 2,811 kilometres of roads, destroyed 790 bridges, and killed more than 22,800 livestock.

The latest shipment was received by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), which expressed appreciation for China’s timely support to Pakistan’s disaster relief efforts.According to Radio Pakistan, the consignment includes 100 boats, 5,000 tents, and 8,000 blankets, marking the continuation of China’s humanitarian assistance to the flood-hit nation.

So far, China has provided Pakistan with a total of 33,000 blankets, 6,000 tents, 100 boats, 1,000 life jackets, and 4,000 sleeping bags. The arrival of the new aid coincides with the onset of winter, further intensifying the challenges faced by displaced families. The NDMA reaffirmed its commitment to mobilising all available resources and ensuring that relief supplies are distributed strictly in line with ground needs and evolving assessments in affected areas.
