The Pakistan–China Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG), chaired by Ms. Romina Khurshid Alam, MNA, held a substantive meeting with H.E. Mr. Jiang Zaidong, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Pakistan. Members of the PFG and Ministers of State attended the meeting both in person and virtually.
In her opening remarks, Ms. Romina Khurshid Alam reaffirmed the enduring “Iron Brother” relationship between Pakistan and China, characterized by trust, mutual respect and shared aspirations for peace and development. She highlighted the forthcoming 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and emphasized Parliament-to-Parliament engagement as a cornerstone of bilateral ties. She underscored the importance of cooperation in poverty alleviation, agricultural modernization, women’s development, climate resilience, renewable energy and broader socio-economic progress.
The Ambassador outlined China’s evolving global role and reaffirmed China’s commitment to promoting regional peace, stability and development. He highlighted China’s successful experience in poverty alleviation, modern agriculture, technological innovation, rural revitalization and climate-resilient farming, noting Pakistan as a priority partner in sharing these models. He emphasized the significant opportunities for deeper collaboration in areas such as contract farming and seed technology, livestock and dairy sector development, scientific and technological upgrading, as well as enhanced pest management and the use of UAV-based agricultural applications to support modern and resilient farming systems.The Ambassador welcomed initiatives under Green Pakistan and Uraan Pakistan, acknowledging Pakistan’s efforts to train agricultural professionals, with hundreds already benefiting from Chinese technical programs.
He reaffirmed China’s continuing support under CPEC Phase-II, particularly in infrastructure, agriculture and livelihood-enhancing projects.Members of the PFG emphasized the importance of strengthening people-to-people exchanges, enhancing youth and academic linkages, expanding cooperation in education and women’s economic empowerment, and advancing modern agricultural practices as essential avenues for deepening bilateral collaboration.
Members of the group reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering adherence to the One-China Principle and expressed appreciation for China’s steadfast support to Pakistan.
Recognizing Pakistan’s agriculture-based economy, the Ambassador underscored the need for adopting modern technologies to increase productivity, enhance food security and strengthen rural incomes. The Chair acknowledged China’s leadership in advancing high-efficiency and high-yield farming, genomic crop diversification, renewable-energy-driven smart farming and the application of precision agriculture and digital tools, noting these innovations as valuable models for strengthening Pakistan’s agricultural transformation.
Opportunities for collaboration in urban and soilless farming, including hydroponics, aeroponics and aquaponics, were also discussed, along with joint research and pilot projects under CPEC Phase-II.
Paksitan-China PFG reaffirmed that CPEC remains a flagship of the bilateral partnership, with Phase-II placing particular emphasis on industrial cooperation, agricultural modernization, science and technology, human capital development and green and livelihood-focused initiatives, all aimed at fostering sustainable and broad-based socioeconomic progress.
The alignment of CPEC’s Five Growth Corridors, Growth, Innovation, Green, Livelihood, and Openness, with Pakistan’s 5Es Framework was recognized as essential for inclusive and sustainable development. The Ambassador reiterated China’s readiness to share its extensive poverty alleviation experience.Members expressed appreciation for the positive outcomes of initiatives such as the SHE Power Project in Balochistan and community livelihood programs in underserved districts. The PFG reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening cooperation in rural revitalization, women’s economic empowerment, digital inclusion and green and sustainable livelihoods, recognizing these areas as vital for advancing.
In her concluding address, Ms. Romina Khurshid Alam thanked the Ambassador for his comprehensive briefing and reaffirmed the PFG’s resolve to strengthen institutional linkages between the National People’s Congress and Pakistan’s Parliament. She emphasized the importance of sustained engagement through virtual interactions and reciprocal delegations. The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to advancing the All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership and expanding cooperation across all sectors for the prosperity of the people of Pakistan and China.
