(Gwadar Pro) — The University of Sargodha (UoS) has entered into two major cooperation agreements with leading Chinese companies to expand opportunities for Pakistani students in maritime education, information technology, and advanced skills development, the university announced on Wednesday.
UoS signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Tianjin Boling Education and Culture Investment Co., Ltd. to launch a Seafarer Training Program aimed at preparing Pakistani students for careers in the global maritime sector. The initiative falls under the China–Pakistan Maritime Silk Road Scholarship, offering fully funded scholarships, specialized maritime courses, and direct employment pathways in China’s maritime industry.
“This partnership will provide our students with international-standard maritime training and open direct avenues for employment in China’s growing maritime sector,” the university said.
The signing ceremony in Tianjin was attended by Dr. Qaisar Abbas, Vice Chancellor of UoS, Prof. Dr. Masood Sarwar Awan, Pro Vice Chancellor, along with senior university officials. UoS described the program as a transformative opportunity aligned with Pakistan’s need for skilled manpower in maritime logistics, shipping, and seafaring professions.
In another development, UoS signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tianjin Xinzhiou Tech Co. Ltd. to boost technological research, innovation, and industry-oriented skills training. The agreement includes establishing a joint software house to support collaboration in Information Technology (IT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The initiative aims to equip UoS students and faculty with high-tech skills through advanced training and research programs.
“The collaboration will enhance our capacity in emerging technological fields and create new research and development opportunities for our students and faculty,” the university said.
“Setting up a joint software house marks a significant step toward building strong academic–industry linkages with China.”University officials emphasized that both agreements reflect UoS’s expanding international presence and commitment to connecting Pakistani youth with high-growth sectors in China.
