In a substantial infrastructure advancement, Gwadar Port and the Gwadar South Free Zone—spanning 60 acres—have secured 10 megawatts of power connectivity from the national grid. This milestone follows the Quetta Electric Supply Company’s (QUESCO) launch of critical infrastructure development on May 8th, involving the installation of power cables, poles, and supporting systems at the site.
A QUESCO official confirmed to Gwadar Port authorities that two independent 5-megawatt feeders are now operational, delivering consistent and uninterrupted electricity to both the port and the South Free Zone. The official emphasized that this project acts as a catalyst for intensified economic operations and accelerated industrialization across Gwadar Port and its associated free zones.
This development builds upon QUESCO’s prior allocation of 10 megawatts to the Gwadar North Free Zone last year, a critical enhancement for investors and enterprises facing acute power shortages. Industrial electricity tariffs now range from Rs. 35 to Rs. 45 per unit, differentiated by normal and peak consumption periods, with assured non-disrupted supply. Previously, Gwadar Port depended solely on an 8.5-megawatt diesel generator, resulting in exorbitant operational expenditures that strained financial resources.
