Pakistan Launches Advanced Remote Sensing Satellite with Chinese Support

ISLAMANAD; In a significant leap forward for its space ambitions, Pakistan on Thursday successfully launched a state-of-the-art remote sensing satellite from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Center.

The satellite, developed under the supervision of the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), is designed to enhance the country’s disaster management and national development efforts.

According to SUPARCO, the satellite is equipped with advanced imaging technology and will support various applications, including early warning systems for natural disasters such as floods, landslides, and earthquakes. It will also aid in precision agriculture, environmental monitoring, and urban planning.

This marks Pakistan’s second remote sensing satellite mission. The first, PRSS-1, was launched in July 2018 from China’s Jiuquan Launch Site. The newly launched satellite will significantly boost Pakistan’s Earth observation capabilities, allowing more effective monitoring of infrastructure development, crop productivity, glacial melt, deforestation, and regional planning needs.

The satellite’s data will also contribute to major national projects, including the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), by mapping transportation routes and identifying geological risks. SUPARCO described the satellite as “a vital asset” for sustainable resource management, with its data acquisition capabilities adaptable to various environmental conditions.

President Asif Ali Zardari congratulated the scientific community on the successful launch, calling it a proud moment for the nation and a testament to Pakistan’s progress in space technology. He emphasized the satellite’s crucial role in boosting sectors such as disaster preparedness, agriculture, urban development, and environmental conservation. The president also expressed appreciation to China for its technical support and continued partnership.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also praised the launch as a landmark achievement and a reflection of the growing cooperation between Pakistan and China in space exploration. He noted that the mission symbolizes a shared commitment to leveraging science and technology for human advancement. He commended SUPARCO and all involved, emphasizing the strategic importance of space collaboration in driving future development and regional integration.

The successful launch marks a new chapter in Pakistan’s space journey, reinforcing its resolve to use cutting-edge technologies for sustainable growth and climate resilience.
