Gwadar Enhances Healthcare with New Dermatology Wing at China-Backed Hospital, Additional Specialties Planned

The Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) has inaugurated a specialized dermatology department at the Pak-China Friendship Hospital, a facility established with Chinese support. GDA Director General Saif Ullah Khaitaran formally unveiled the department during a ceremony attended by local officials, medical professionals, and residents. The new unit features skin specialists skilled in genetics, immunology, melanoma, pediatric dermatology, and surgical procedures, including Mohs micrographic surgery, laser treatments, and cosmetic interventions.

Patients in Gwadar and surrounding regions can now access advanced care for complex skin conditions such as blistering disorders, bullous pemphigoid, connective tissue diseases, and contact dermatitis. The department also provides diagnostic services, including skin biopsies and specimen testing for bacterial, fungal, and viral infections. Telemedicine capabilities have been integrated to extend care to remote communities.

During the event, Director General Khaitaran outlined plans to expand the hospital’s services further, with upcoming gastroenterology, cardiology, and neurology departments. He emphasized the hospital’s role as a flagship initiative under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), stating, “This facility will soon see expanded infrastructure, including a medical college and allied health institutions, reinforcing its commitment to advanced healthcare.” Recent upgrades include the February launch of Endourology—a minimally invasive surgical technique—and modern laser surgery for bladder stone removal.

Operated by the Indus Hospital and Health Network (IHHN) under GDA oversight, the Pak-China Friendship Hospital serves as a critical healthcare hub for Gwadar and broader Balochistan. “Our aim is to ensure quality medical care is accessible locally, reducing the need for patients to travel long distances,” Khaitaran added. The facility also equips staff with state-of-the-art tools and training resources to uphold high treatment standards.
